AKWA Baby, a new brand of ethical clothing embracing African heritage and prints to celebrate colour and diversity, has launched with a stunning capsule collection.
Following on from their soft launch last August with their sell-out Celebrate Colour logo T-shirt, the brand has just unveiled their latest collection of unisex jumpsuits and top, short and trouser combinations featuring the beautiful ‘Obi’ print. Which means heart in the Lgabo tribe language.
Teaching acceptance and self-love is at the forefront of the brand’s ethos. Co-founders (and husband and wife team) Claire and Ogo Mkparu wanted to create a brand to inspire their children’s African heritage and celebrate colour.
Claire Mkparu, co-owner of Akwa Baby, explains, “As parents, we are passionate about acceptance and self-love. We believe that if we can encourage our children to love themselves and embrace the things that makes them unique, they will have the confidence to take on the world.
We’ve created a kids clothing range that is made to stand out and spread a positive message. Inspired by Nnenna Emily’s Nigerian heritage and the African art of storytelling textiles, the clothing carries symbols to represent affirmations and positive messages of self-belief and love. We call it feel good clothing!”
The brand has also pledged to donate 10% of all profits to charitable organisations. Upping the feel-good factor for buyers when purchasing!
Plus, all the clothes are made from ethical fabrics and ethically distributed with recyclable packaging. All garments are Oeko-Tek and GOTS approved and are made unisex so they can be shared with siblings to get as much wear as possible.
