Pastel hair is gaining more momentum this Spring/Summer with a whole host of celebs getting in on the trend including singer Nicki Minaj going green, ‘Twilight’ actress Kristen Stewart and her pink hue, Rita Ora went orange while colour chameleon Kylie Jenner opted for a teal/blue shade.

What’s good about going pastel is that if you are already blonde you can buy a wash in/wash out hairspray and test what colours look good on you before you commit to anything longer term.

Surrey Rocks has tried and tested a few and can say that the best and most affordable on the market is Superdrug’s ‘Pick & Mix Colour Hairspray’ priced at only £2.99, with offers running on 2 for £6 or 3 for £7 at the moment. Choose from Very Violet, Rebel Red, Rose Pink, Pink Petal, Green Machine or Blue Blast. If you spend £20 on their website you get free delivery too.

If you have short hair one can will suffice, mid-lengths 2 cans or long hair go for 3 cans. But be warned it does rub off a bit throughout the day so don’t wear with white clothing!

Argos do a great selection of hair chalks which cost £10 and are great for highlighting all hair types and colours, although the colour intensity may vary. Best to use this product with care around your favourite clothes like the Pick & Mix Sprays.

If you decide you like your new pastel colour shade, you can pick up a semi-permanent toner or dye from Boots or Superdrug for less than a tenner. The best on the market that gets rave reviews is Clairol Colour Toners. They come in a range of shades and last approximately 8 washes.

Go one step further and head to a salon to get the best and most long-lasting pastel colour this season. Surrey Rocks’ Editor Sam went pink for the Surrey Awards after a visit to the award-winning Sam Burnett salon, Hare & Bone, in Esher.

Stylist Emily dyed her hair blonde then went for a Davines Colour in rose pink. The result was a beautiful light pink hue. Sam has short hair so Emily decided to dye her blonde clip-in extensions to match. The result was perfect for the awards gala dinner. For anyone that wants to try this, it’s important to know that the colour match on the extensions only works when you wash your own hair and the clip-ins at the same time, otherwise one fades more than the other! To keep the colour topped up nicely the Davines Alchemic Creative Conditioner in Pink, available at Hare & Bone, works wonders and also repairs the hair at the same time with Jojoba oil that helps shine, and soften.
