Banking giant Santander is closing 111 bank branches by August 2021 with 5 of those earmarked for Surrey.
Among the closures are the Cobham, Leatherhead, Weybridge, Banstead and Ashford branches.
Announcing the closure, Santander announced that branch transactions fell by 33% over the two years before the pandemic and then fell a further 50% in 2020.
Mobile and online transaction have grown by 20% year on year. Two thirds of overall transactions are now digital.
Santander reassured that the majority of those areas affected live within a 3 mile radius of another Santander branch.
