WORLD’S LARGEST €150M YACHT HOTEL OPENS IN GIBRALTAR
Sunborn, the new five star floating hotel, is finally opening its doors to the public in June and making waves throughout Spain and Gibraltar with its presence.
The new hotel is an impressive seven storeys, 15,500 square of floor space and dwarfs the other super yachts in the marina.
There are 189 rooms, a mixture of executive suites, suites and high-specification guest rooms.
Walking into the Sunborn is truly breathtaking. There’s a sweeping red carpet entrance leading into a glamorous foyer and the boat’s soon to be appointed Michelin star Pearl Spa and Linen Restaurant. There is also a casino, cocktail lounge, swimming pool, spa, gym, ballroom, conference and banqueting rooms.
A main focal point of the yacht is the top deck with its Sky Restaurant and Bar, which has a retractable roof and concertina glass doors, allowing for alfresco dining all year round or parties under the stars.
It is docked on a permanent basis by 6-strong hydraulic arms in the Ocean Village Marina and has stunning views overlooking Morocco and the Rock and Bay of Gibraltar. On clear days North Africa can be seen from the hotel. 90% of the rooms have outdoor areas and all the windows are floor to ceiling glass.
The Sunborn was developed by a team of architects, designers and marine specialists from more than 15 countries and cost its Finish developers €150m.
The super yacht hotel is expected to attract a mixture of celebrities, business people and holidaymakers. According to its Gibraltarian manager, “various football teams, singers and even Rihanna, has enquired about staying here.
Interestingly enough one of the hotel’s unique selling points is the fact that it is able to move around when “economic or political conditions become unsteady.” Hopefully this will not be the case with Gibraltar!
A further plus point for Sunborn is it can be docked in protected locations, either historically or environmentally, as no permanent footprint is left upon removal.
At present the Sunborn London is due to open in Royal Victoria Dock, with further floating hotels planned for Barcelona and projects under development in North America, South East Asia, the Middle East and Russia.
