If controlling your phone from your watch already sounds a bit old fashioned then you may be interested in the fact that scientists are developing smart paint – allowing the colour of your car to change depending on your mood.

Get passed by a Lamborghini? Your car could turn green with jealousy. Or get cut up and suffer from a spot of road-rage? Your wheels will turn red to alert the driver ahead you are not best pleased with their driving skills.

The project, codenamed AutoEmotive, is being developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology works by embedding tiny sensors into the skin which then pass data into electrodes in the ‘conductive paint.’

The technology can also detect other emotions including frustration – with one developer reported to be working on a concept Xbox controller which would recognise when gamers are running out of patience and tailor the game’s level of difficulty accordingly. No more throwing the controller across the room.
