WE’VE DIED AND GONE TO CAR HEAVEN!

The Geneva International Motor Show is undoubtedly the highlight of the year for automakers and motorheads. And this year was unlike any other with some of the most awaited, jaw dropping supercars on display. Here’s our top picks from the show.

McLaren 720S

At the heart of the 720S is a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 engine producing 711 bhp of torque. It replaces the 650S and even outpaces the Ferrari 488 with a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph. The 720S is built with lightweight carbon fibre which is now extended to the roof with thin pillars providing excellent all round visibility and allowing room for its new and improved dihedral doors. According to Hadyn Baker, director of the McLaren Super Series the 720S “has the widest breadth of road and track capability of any McLaren so far.”

RUF CTR Yellowbird

German carmakers RUF, who originally made their name tweaking Porches, paid a faithful homage to the original Porsche 911 CTR with 3.2 based twin turbo monster that earned the nickname “Yellowbird.” The classic fastback features NACA ducts, 5 spoke alloys and a tail spoiler that resembles a whale! Underneath it has an entirely carbon fibre passenger compartment and a carbon chassis making it both lightweight and incredibly fast, smashing the 100km/h barrier in just 3.5 seconds.

Mercedes AMG-GT Concept

Steering away from the supercar status, Mercedes 4 door, 4 seat touring version of its two-seat GT sports car was a preview not to be snubbed at. Whilst not yet in production Mercedes is intent on rolling out by 2019 and it definitely got tongues wagging. With its ferocious proportions including huge grill and jaw. State of the art features include day running 3D light cords that can be freely styled while the extended mirrors on the car are replaced by cameras.

Lamborghini Huracan Performante

640hp, active aero with 750% more downforce and one controversial lap time. A 640hp Huracan with 40kg stripped out of it making it even faster. Plus, some very clever active aero, the Performante keeps the standard Huracan’s four-wheel drive and can be optioned with the controversial Lamborghini Dynamic Steering if you so wish – both this and the passive system are recalibrated for a more consistent feel. Topped off with a 5.2 litre V.10 which sounds mightily impressive.
