When Lenny Kravitz started his career in the music industry he was so poor he had to live in a\u00a0car\u00a0that\u00a0he rented for $5 a day. Now he\u2019s a\u00a0four-time\u00a0Grammy\u00a0award-winning\u00a0singer, songwriter,\u202fmulti-instrumentalist, record\u202fproducer, author and\u00a0arranger,\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0also acted in\u00a0films such as\u00a0Precious<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Hunger Games<\/em>.\u00a0Yes, Lenny Albert Kravitz is a pretty impressive man with no signs of slamming on the breaks.<\/p>\n

At 57, he has just released his memoirs and is working on THREE new albums. And all this while keeping up an impressive daily workout regime. His latest Instagram post of him making a cup of coffee with a completely unbuttoned leopard print shirt left fans drooling. He has the well-defined abdominals of a 27-year-old, let alone a 57-year-old.<\/p>\n

But Lenny\u2019s journey to success was not an easy ride as he reveals in his new book \u201cLet Love Rule.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the fact his parents were already film stars,\u00a0Lenny rejected their help in order to begin his career alone.\u00a0So after\u00a0graduating in 1982\u00a0Lenny left home and hit the road\u00a0with\u00a0next to\u00a0nothing.\u00a0In a chance meeting on arrival in New York City, he fell\u00a0in love with the\u00a080\u2019s\u00a0star of\u00a0The Cosby Show<\/em>, Lisa Benet.\u00a0In fact,\u00a0New York\u00a0was a lucky place for\u00a0young\u00a0Lenny, as it was\u00a0also\u00a0where he\u00a0met recording engineer Henry Hirsh, which\u00a0kickstarted\u00a0the release of his first album,\u00a0Let Love Rule<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>in 1989.<\/p>\n

In the following years, Lenny and Hirsh, both with a shared passion for mixing jazz, rock and R&B released the\u00a0track which\u00a0made his career.\u00a0Are You<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Gonna<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Go My Way<\/em>\u00a0released in 1993 earned\u00a0Kravitz\u00a0a Brit Award\u00a0for Best International Male Artist\u00a0and an MTV Music Award for Best Video. At a time when\u00a0all music\u00a0videos were\u00a0played on MTV and were make or break for the artist, Lenny thrashing\u00a0on his electric\u00a0guitar with his unruly dreadlocks, leather trousers and platforms made for\u00a0unmissable\u00a0viewing.<\/p>\n

Everything\u00a0seemed to be perfect in Lenny\u00b4s\u00a0world.\u00a0He had an unstoppable recording career\u00a0of his own and was even producing records and playing guitar for the likes of Mick\u00a0Jagger, Madonna, Aerosmith and David Bowie.<\/p>\n

However, things started to\u00a0go\u00a0badly for the star when Lenny\u00b4s mum died at age 66 of breast cancer and\u00a0after 8 years together,\u00a0Lisa and Lenny\u00a0sadly\u00a0got\u00a0divorced.\u00a0Lenny blamed the separation on\u00a0the teachings of his father.\u00a0\u201cMy mother loved my father. My father just liked women,\u201d\u202fLennie explained in an episode of\u00a0Oprah\u2019s Master Class. \u201cMy father was getting ready to leave and move out\u201d\u00a0Lenny\u00a0described that\u00a0he\u00a0clearly remember his father saying\u00a0to me, \u2018You\u2019ll do it, too.\u2019\u00a0It messed me up.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, his father\u2019s\u00a0prediction\u00a0seemingly\u00a0became true\u00a0when the couple divorced after rumours of Kravitz infidelity.\u00a0Following the break-up Lenny released\u00a0his darkest album;\u00a0Circus<\/em>. Some of the\u00a0songs\u00a0in this album make it clear\u00a0just how much Lenny was suffering. For example, in\u00a0the song\u00a0Can\u2019t Get You Off My Mind<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>Lenny sings,\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t\u00a0wanna\u00a0lose you baby, and I don\u2019t\u00a0wanna\u00a0be alone. Don\u2019t\u00a0wanna\u00a0live my days without you, but for now I\u2019ve got to be without you.\u201d<\/p>\n

However\u00a0despite cheating rumours\u00a0(with none other than Madonna), Lisa and Lenny\u00a0have remained friends. Lisa married Jason\u00a0Momoa who plays Aquaman in 2017 and have two kids together. Lenny has always\u00a0made an effort to be friends with his ex and her new man.<\/p>\n

Kravitz said his\u00a0ongoing friendship\u00a0with Lisa\u00a0is\u00a0especially due to their\u00a0daughter,\u00a0Zoe\u00a0Kravitz, who is now a successful American actress, singer, model and director.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had Zoe, which is, I see now, what it was all about. It was really all about bringing this beautiful child to the planet and also sharing the love that [Lisa and I] had,\u201d said Lenny. \u201cWhen we\u2019re all together now, we\u2019re all together and we\u2019re one big happy family. It\u2019s beautiful and it just shows you what can be done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today you will probably recognise Zoe from films such as\u00a0X-Men: First Class, Divergent, Insurgent and Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>.\u00a0She is also dating Magic Mike<\/em> star Channing Tatum, after falling in love on the set of the recent film Pussy Island<\/em> that Zoe was directing and Tatum was starring in.<\/p>\n

Performing\u00a0just seems to be within the Kravitz family\u2019s blood. Lenny\u2019s mother, Roxie Roker, even broke racial barriers with her\u00a0performance in\u00a0The Jefferson\u2019s<\/em>, where her\u00a0character married a white man, the first interracial couple to be shown on primetime television.<\/p>\n

But growing up in a life of\u00a0fame and fortune does not mean Lenny missed out on those typical gross jobs that most\u00a0teenagers have to\u00a0get. In fact, in high school he worked in a fish market, cutting up fish for a living. But yet hung out with celebs like\u00a0actor\u00a0Joe Namath and was shown how to play\u00a0piano by\u00a0jazz legend Duke Ellington.<\/p>\n

Overall it\u00a0seems Lenny has kept\u00a0himself\u00a0very busy over the years.\u00a0\u201cBetween the music … the photography, the acting, and the design\u00a0company that I run, it\u2019s pretty much 24\/7,\u201d\u202fLenny\u00a0reveals.<\/p>\n

But now at the age of 57, he\u00a0believes it is time to make room for\u00a0someone special.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s times you say,\u00a0Man, I\u2019d love to be married again, and I\u2019d love to have a family\u2019 and all of these things. But I\u2019ve sacrificed that for all of these things that I do,\u201d\u00a0Kravitz admitted at the interview.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t have regrets, because that would mean I\u2019m not trusting in what\u2019s to be.\u00a0I am waiting to see what happens\u00a0– I\u2019m a free man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lenny said\u00a0that now there is love missing in his life.\u00a0\u201cI can feel that it\u2019s time \u2014 you know, those things will continue, because I love them \u2014 but I need to make room for a new personal life.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the interview this week Lenny also revealed that his next ambition is to direct movies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would do an indie film, do my own film,\u201d he says, adding that he\u2019s working on a script. \u201cI don\u2019t know if many people know I want to do that [directing]. I think it\u2019s something I\u2019m going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

But until then we still have his live music to enjoy, as Lenny is adament he will not give up touring, \u201cI\u2019m going to continue doing this for as long as I can,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

We sincerely hope so and can\u2019t wait to see the \u2018Rock Legend\u2019 perform his classic hits and new album material soon.<\/p>\n
