The charismatic owner of Passorn Thai, Sonny, saw a gap in the Surrey Hills market for a traditional Thai Restaurant that serves the best Asian dishes as well as a modern twist on classic dishes. Not only do they have the best food around for miles Passorn Thai has the warmest service and friendliest staff; Kisstida and Mam were fabulous on our recent trip.
WHAT’S NEW
Passorn Thai recently underwent an interior makeover in August this year and have a dazzling new Thai inspired front terrace – perfect for alfresco dining – when the weather permits! Passorn Thai is located on the doorstep of the bustling city of Guildford but has a local village feel with free parking outside. They also serve the neighbouring towns of Godalming, Cranleigh, Albury as well as surrounding villages.

OUR EXPERIENCE
Our recent trip to Passorn Thai was amazing. Choose from delicious dishes including Satay, Tempura, Spring Rolls, Gyoza, Stir Frys, Salads, Soups, Pad Thai, Curries and Chef’s Specials. Plus, exciting new dishes on their vast menu include Seared Scallops and Garlic Tempura.
We asked for their recommendation on the most popular Passorn Thai Starters and were pleasantly surprised with the selection – it was a smorgasbord of food plentiful to feed our intrepid diners, consisting of TV personality and Surrey Awards 2023 host Bobby Davro. (His bromance with owner Sonny was so sweet to watch on the night may we add!)
The Starters consisted of Chicken Satay, Sticky Ribs (pork ribs triple cooked and marinated in a homemade sauce) and Tempura Prawn. All three were sublime.
The crispiness of the Tempura was incredible and the Prawns large and tender. The Ribs literally fell off the bone, the meat being incredibly succulent and tender and of course triple cooked to perfection. The accompanying homemade sauce was sweet with a slight hint of spice.
The Chicken Satay – a firm Passorn Thai favourite – consisted of four large skewers of marinated chicken and peanut dipping sauce to die for!
For Mains we went for the Chicken Massaman with potatoes, peppers, onions and chilli – flavoursome yet incredibly healthy with a delicious mid-spicy sauce to accompany. The classic mild Thai Green Curry with coconut milk cooked with fresh bamboo shoots, courgettes and fresh churned greens was equally superb too and beautifully presented.
Next up was the Pad Thai which is traditional stir-fried rice noodles with eggs, bean sprouts, tamarind sauce, served with fresh lime and ground peanuts on the side which comes in various options of Chicken Breast, Tiger Prawn, Beef, Vegetable and Tofu & Vegetables. We went for the Prawn which was so delicious and flavours of the sauce and crisp beanshoots were perfect. We had a Tamarind Duck too Crispy fried duck, sliced and smothered in a rich tamarind and caramelised shallots sauce Jasmine Rice to accompany. The meal delighted our diners and easily went round, with some leftover for the next day.
And what’s more as well as being the best Thai we have had so far in Surrey the meal was incredible value for money – especially considering the quality of the dishes we had.
We were so impressed with Passorn Thai that we have booked to go back again, we hope you enjoy your experience at this beautiful restaurant.

Passorn Thai is open Tuesday – Sunday for lunch (12pm – 3pm) and dinner (5pm – 10pm) for dining, takeaway or collection.
This gem of a restaurant ticks all the boxes for taste, quality, service and price. Highly recommended and definitely in the running for the ‘Best Pan Asian Restaurant’ for the Surrey Awards 2024! Watch this space.
