Netflix viewers are ‘shocked’ and ‘disgusted’ by the findings of the new\u00a0Seaspiracy <\/em>documentary which reveals over 100 million sharks are killed each year.<\/p>\n

First revealing the heavy impact of pollution in our oceans, the majority of which is not caused by our waster but the fishing industry’s waste of discarded nets, the documentary goes onto expose the harsh reality of overfishing on marine-life.<\/p>\n

Over 100 million sharks, that’s 30,000 per hour, are killed each year for their fins and as bycatch in the tuna fishing industry.<\/p>\n

Similarly, dolphins are killed by fisherman as a form of \u2018pest control\u2019 as they eat supplies of fish and killing them is easier than putting them back in the ocean after catching them.<\/p>\n

One particularly harrowing scene shows dolphins being driven into a small bay in Taiji in Japan where they are caught or killed. For every dolphin being caught \u2013 12 more are being killed unnecessarily.<\/p>\n

In the Faroe Islands north of Scotland, more slaughter is displayed with a whole family of whales being driven into shallow water by speedboats where the islanders slit their throats and leave them to bleed to death. It is an ancient tradition called Grindadrap.<\/p>\n

There has been a huge reaction on social media to the fishing industry and the slaughter of thousands of sea life dolphins, whales and sharks.<\/p>\n

To which a Twitter user responded: I am sick of humans acting like we are better than animals when we are so barbaric and evil towards them. What possesses you to get so excited about stabbing a beautiful whale in the head and slitting its throat?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Twitter user exclaimed: \u201cI watched this documentary last night and I\u2019m not ashamed to tell you it made me cry\u2026 we need more brave nature lovers like Ali to create awareness about the harm that we all do to our planet Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

One interviewee claims we are killing the sea which will have a disastrous effect on the planet\u2019s ecosystem. More so than global warming.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are at war with the oceans and if we win this war, we\u2019re going to lose it all because mankind is not able to live on this planet with a dead sea.\u201d<\/p>\n

As well as the outcrys on social media, people are looking for ways to support conservation programs and stop these cruel practices.<\/p>\n

According to the talented documentary maker, 27-year-old Ali Tabrizi the only way to really stop the process is to \u201cstop eating fish\u201d.<\/p>\n
