Four\u00a0times the size of Sonar and described by revellers as \u2018the\u00a0biggest warehouse rave you\u2019ve ever been to\u2019. Located on\u00a0the outskirts of Barcelona city centre in the Fira Gran Via\u00a0complete with fun fair and the hugest sound system any\u00a0venue has to offer.<\/p>\n
Expect to see the unexpected. Last year German electro\u00a0group Kraftwerk handed out 3D glasses to the crowd and\u00a0put on an impressive visionary show to accompany their\u00a0two-hour greatest hits set. This year Sonar will play host to\u00a0Despacio, a collaborative piece involving LCD Soundsystem\u2019s\u00a0James Murphy, 2ManyDJ\u2019s and John Klett,<\/p>\n
Despacio is essentially a custom built, sound system offering\u00a0a unique sonic experience. Powered by McIntosh this\u00a050\u2019000 watt monster of a system will be facilitating James\u00a0Murphy and the Dewaele brothers to showcase this one of\u00a0a kind, 6 hour, all vinyl set.<\/p>\n
While thousands of dance music fans flock to Barcelona\u00a0for this eclectic event, the bars and clubs of Barcelona\u00a0play homage to Sonar by putting on \u2018Anti Sonar\u2019 a\u00a0chance for those to get in on the action without visiting\u00a0the main arenas. This is a great time to visit Barcelona\u00a0if you want to both see the sights and feel the party\u00a0atmosphere, the whole city comes to life for Sonar and\u00a0doesn\u2019t slow down for the entire weekend.<\/p>\n
The only potential downside to Sonar is queuing for\u00a0the festival\u2019s many food and drink stalls. Tickets have\u00a0to be bought and paid for in advance and then handed\u00a0over to these establishments. The idea behind this is\u00a0so no actual money changes hands (when people may\u00a0be worse for wear) so it should work nicely. However,\u00a0queuing is a pain in the arse – especially twice – but this\u00a0is an unavoidable downside to a festival this large.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Since it began in the early 90\u2019s, Sonar has\u00a0grown into Sonar By Day and Sonar By Night\u00a0featuring 100 acts spread across two respective\u00a0venues. Sonar By Day at the Placa D\u2019Espana\u00a0in the city centre has four large main stages\u00a0and features The Sonar Village, a place to kick\u00a0back, relax and enjoy the music and Mediterranean\u00a0weather. Be warned it\u2019s almost 40\u00a0degrees in June so there may be an abundance\u00a0of bare flesh. Bothered I hear you say?<\/p>\n
