Hailey Bieber is one of those girls….you either love or hate her.
Nepotism, rich husband, IT girl – most don’t like her ‘easy’ road in life as the daughter of Hollywood actor Stephen Baldwin and neice of Alec Baldwin and go down the hate road.
I think it’s safe to say that her husband Justin Bieber’s ex Selena Gomez is in the latter ‘hate’ camp too, despite proclaiming to not be! And Hailey has been gaining a lot of column inches lately for allegedly being cruel to Selena Gomez by a supposed body shaming video on Tik Tok in January this year – which saw the hashtag TeamHailey fall to 175 million views. In comparison TeamSelena received 1.8 billion views. Gomez responded to the claims of the dig…“It’s ok! I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone! x.”
BROW BASHING
So where did this feud all start? Well brows actually! Believe it or not!
Back in 2018 Gomez posted a Tik Tok saying how she had accidentally over-laminated her brows. Literally a few hours later Hailey posted a screenshot of her FaceTiming Kylie Jenner with a close up of their brows – obviously a dig at Selena’s beauty faux pas.
Despite saying there was no feud, Gomez responded to a fan who commented “mean girls and nepo babies” with “I love you” a day after the brow FaceTime dig. Gomez then disappeared from social media saying “I’m 30. I’m too old for this,” a day after.
MAKING UP
So where does the hate come from? It doesn’t take a psychologist to work out that despite being a perfect size 6, a model and beauty, Hailey has reservations about Selena as she dated her now spouse for 8 years. Not a drop in the ocean, that is a serious relationship, that is love. Or was love.
And Selena is loved by millions. Having paved her way as a singer, actress, producer and businesswoman she is self-made. And Hailey has to put up with Gomez’ fans taunting her husband at gigs too, which must play on her. The crowd were chanting “fuck Hailey” when Justin made a surprise appearance at Rolling Loud festival last year.
Luckily the girls have taken the higher plain and have publicly spoken out in support of each other.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Selena shared. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
Hailey expressed her gratitude for Selena speaking out. She went on to explain that everyone, including herself, could stand to be more careful with what they say and post online.
She said: “I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I. The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this, which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together.”
Well done girls!
STYLE QUEEN
While the media has been full of controversial comments about Hailey (unfairly because of Selena, we think) there is one thing that’s plain to see. Hailey has a great sense of style. She is the foremost poster girl for the dressed down look! Thank god for those of us fed up tottering about in heels!!
Hailey is always papped for her cool, trend-setting looks that mainly involve streetwear dressing, oversized tees and trainers.
She is a very successful model in her own right too, gaining the adulation and sponsorship of brands including YSL, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and Vogue Eyewear. She has also set up her own skincare range called Rhode which is making all the right moves, advocating a natural beauty look with lots of shine. Unlike the heavily powdered, contoured make-up that takes girls 2 hours to apply everyday.
