An electrician in La Linea has become the second person to drown when a flash flood trapped him inside a car yesterday afternoon as co-workers narrowly avoided the same fate.
The as yet to be named man was attempting to fix a power cut in the area when the tragedy occurred.
In a post on Facebook last night, Juan Jose Franco, mayor of La Linea, declared three days of mourning.
“He was working to restore power to the area when it happened. I have just declared three days of official morning. We are profoundly sadly for his loss and we are united with his family in their grief.”
He is the second victim of the floods, a young woman who was trapped in the basement of a club in Estepona also lost her life despite attempts by emergency services to rescue her.
There is more heavy rain expected today. The area has been put on a red danger weather alert. According to official reports it is the worst rainfall to hit the Costa Del Sol in 27 years.
