DJ COLIN FRANCIS

Cover star DJ Colin Francis is set for a huge Marbella presence this summer. He will be playing every Friday at the brand new Mirage Nightclub in Puerto Banús in a night entitled ‘DJ Colin Francis and Friends.’ Marbella Rocks chatted exclusively to the Superstar DJ to find out all about his new projects, forthcoming albums, residencies, love life and much more. SO COLIN WHO HAVE YOU GOT LINED UP TO PLAY ALONGSIDE YOU IN YOUR NEW MIRAGE RESIDENCY THIS SUMMER?
I have many guests and surprises lined up for this summer!! Including MK, Kano, Tom Zanetti, Troyboi to name a few…

DOES THIS MEAN YOU WILL BE ‘SHARING’ THE DJ BOOTH?
Yes indeed… it’s all about the experience that I want the crowd to enjoy and come away from the night feeling like they have had not just a good night, but a great night.

HOW DID YOU END UP GETTING THE GIG?
The owners of Mirage got in contact with me and put a proposal to me and when I looked at it from every perspective it was a win – win for everyone.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE PLANS FOR THE CLUB, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WILL BE ON A PAR WITH IBIZA’S SUPERCLUBS? (185DB SOUND SYSTEM, LASER DISPLAYS AND SO ON)
I have and that was another contributing factor for me taking on this venue as my first weekly residency.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE A RESIDENCY AT MIRAGE?
I choose Mirage because not only do I love the fact that it is a brand new venue with a great location but the team that run the operation are very good and I trust in them.  They have the same work ethic as myself… work hard and achieve the goals you set yourself. We are very excited about the collaboration.

YOU HAVE ALSO BEEN SELECTED TO PLAY MIRAGE’S OPENING NIGHT ON APRIL 28TH, ARE THERE ANY SURPRISES IN STORE?
That was a huge privilege to be asked and yes there are indeed. Watch this space.

WILL YOU STILL BE PLAYING AT OTHER MARBELLA CLUBS AS FANS ARE USED TO CATCHING YOU AT PANGEA, TIBU AND SISU IN THE SUMMER?
Yes I will but only on champagne weekends other than that I am exclusive to Mirage.

MARBELLA HAS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE A SECOND HOME TO YOU – CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY?
Marbella is a very special place to me for many reasons… the scene, the people, the blend of music and cultures but most of all because I feel like I was part of reason that Marbella is recognised on the music scene via my “Marbella Sessions” and “Marbella Collection” albums with the great Ministry of Sound.

WHERE WILL YOU BE STAYING WHEN YOU’RE IN MARBELLA?
In Puerto Banus… possibly just hire a villa for the summer.

WE NOTICED SOME RECENT PRESS ABOUT A TIE IN WITH SONY MUSIC CAN YOU TELL US MORE?
Basically Sony have bought Ministry of Sound and in doing so they have fortunately made “Marbella Collection” and myself one of their main summer releases.  It truly is a dream come true for me.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO GET THE NUMBER 1 ALBUM SLOT? (YOU’VE ALREADY HAD 6!)
This is the biggest achievement so far in my career.  I’m truly grateful for everyone that supported and bought the album.

IS THERE A 7th NUMBER ONE IN THE PIPELINE?
I hope I can make it a 7th… god willing of course!!!

 

YOU ALSO PRODUCE YOUR OWN TRACKS, WHAT CURRENT MATERIAL ARE YOU WORKING ON?
I have some real nice tracks lined up which I can’t wait to share with everyone.

Marbella Collection 2017 (and I hope yours too!)

Haha!!! No of course not!! It is very flattering and it has become synonymous on and off my sets!!

WHAT KEEPS YOU GROUNDED?
My faith in God, my family and friends.

IS THERE A SPECIAL SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
Yeah.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GIRL?
A good heart, kindness, humility, unconditional love and someone that can motivate me as much as I want to motivate and support them.

HOW DO YOU COPE WITH SUCH A GRUELLING SCHEDULE PLAYING IN CLUBS ALL OVER THE WORLD?
I’m grateful everyday that I do something that I love and am passionate about… music is my soul’s engine.  Music can enhance my mood even with just one song!

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND?
Spend time with my loved ones and enjoy the moment, because in future years those moments become our memories.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT MARBELLA?
It’s ambience.

YOU’VE PLAYED PRIVATELY FOR A WHOLE HOST OF CELEBS INCLUDING 50 CENT, NICKY MINAJ AND DRAKE. DO YOU EVER GET STAR STRUCK?
Inwardly yes of course lol!! However, you keep it cool because on most occasions they become your friends.

YOU SAID IN AN INTERVIEW LAST YEAR YOU HOPED TO GET MORE INTO PRODUCTION – HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS?
Yes and it’s been an unbelivable journey so far… I can tap into a different side of me.

WHAT COLLABORATIONS, IF ANY, HAVE YOU GOT IN THE PIPELINE?
I don’t want to let too much out but let’s just say it ranges from legends to current artists creating waves.

WHAT ABOUT GETTING CLOSE TO YOUR DREAM OF COMPETING WITH THE LIKES OF MAJOR LAZER, CALVIN HARRIS AND GUETTA?
The music being created is going to surprise some people.  The above are legends in my eyes and to share a sentence with them is a start… I trust in the process and all I can do is work hard and be true to myself and those that have supported and will support me in the future.
