In for the second instalment Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren in their most terrifying paranormal investigations, the film follows them travelling to an Enfield council house to help a single mother who is raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits. Over the course of the investigation the Warrens witnessed levitations, dematerialization and had conversations with the actual demon itself. The case that the duo are looking at occurs in the late 70’s and centres on two sisters located in Enfield that were allegedly possessed, the true story said that the real Lorraine Warren saw them levitate and contorted in such a unnatural way that they couldn’t have replicated it if they tried. Director of the first film James Wan took lead on this film too, this director managed to fuse studio budgets with a strong sense of artistry. Upon the films announcement that the story was not confirmed to be complete follow up, the writers felt it was necessary to focus on one of Warren’s lesser-known cases, much in the same way they did with the case from the first movie. The film includes a lot of hiding your face behind the hands moments and jumping in your seats but is defiantly a great follow up from the first instalment. The Conjuring 2: The Endfield experiment shows the furniture being dragged itself across the floor, knocking sounds being heard on the walls alongside demonic voices being echoed in the rooms…(chilling!) The film has an element of borderline minimalism, with the main key that relies on building visual atmosphere. So if you’re fan of Paranormal Activity and Insidious then this is a not to be missed film.
