Yes, the luxury car manufacturer have unveiled their first ever foray into the lucrative SUV market with the Cullinan; and it is being marketed to young millennials, in an attempt to shift the brand’s perception of older, chauffeur driven businessman.
The car uses a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing 563bhp and with a top speed of 155mph, so it’s fast enough for the young folk.
The car also includes a drinks cabinet with Rolls-Royce whisky glasses and decanter, champagne flutes and refrigerator. Other special features include a retractable table and leather chairs that turn the back of the car into an outdoor dining area. Ok so it’s sociable too.
For the first time, the Goodwood-based company are aiming their latest car at a new demographic of “younger, very successful high-net-worth individuals who have a higher disposable income” although many people are having doubts over the car’s mass appeal within this age group.
The Independent questioned the car’s huge price tag being in stark contrast with the budgets of the vast majority of millennials: the news has just come that a third of young people face living in private rented accommodation all their lives a report by the Resolution Foundation.
“When Rolls-Royce announced three years ago that it would launch Cullinan, it did so in the knowledge that its customers around the world had asked it to build ‘The Rolls-Royce of SUVs’, with luxury, performance and usability not seen before in the SUV market,” explained the brand in a press release.
“Many of these customers were younger, very successful high-net-worth individuals who are heavily engaged in the experience economy, and wanted a Rolls-Royce that would take them to the ends of the Earth in ultimate luxury.”
While the vehicle matches all Rolls-Royce’s superior vehicle’s standards, it is not yet known whether take up of this car will follow the success of recent car manufacturer launches, likes Bentley’s Bentyaga which is priced from €130,000, just shy of half the price of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
