Hello and happy September. The last time I wrote for Surrey Rocks the sun was shining and I was filled with anticipation for a Summer filled with plenty of sunshine and alfresco dining. Sadly, due to one of the wettest summers on record, that wasn’t meant to be. Thankfully, I managed to escape to the South of France for a while which, as always, was a feast for the eyes. Back in good old Blighty, and with Summer drawing to a close, now is the perfect time to look ahead to the coming Autumn/Winter season. This year, we see the return of ‘wearable’ fashion, as fast throwaway fashion takes a back seat. Some old classics return through both formal tailored suit styling and more relaxed jeans, shirts and oversized blazer combos.

I have picked a selection of the most wearable trends, so you don’t have to.

Enjoy!

CLASSIC TAILORING

For those of you that like formal styling, you’ll be pleased to know that this season classic tailoring makes its comeback. Pinstripes proved popular on the catwalks of both Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent, but black suits and separates were the overall winner.

THE BLACK COAT

The black tailored coat, although nothing we haven’t seen before, is THE must-have wardrobe staple this season. You may already have one hidden away in storage, if so, it’s time to resurrect it. I have selected two options, one for those on a budget and one which should be seen as an investment. If you take good care of it, it should last you for many, many years. In my eyes, it’s well worth the investment.
